It was a year with many happy memories, the year we welcomed our precious Winnie. It was also a rough year, filled with grief, anxiety, and lots of overwhelming about-to-lose-my-shit parenting moments. But we made it. I suspect 2017 will be just as challenging (if not more so). But again we’ll make it through with lots of ups and downs along the way.
I don’t want to make this long; I just want to wish you all a Happy New Year and thank you for following our journey (and share some of my favorite photos from the past 12 months). I hope you’ll continue to read this blog in 2017! I’ll leave you with an excerpt from my annual letter that we send with our Christmas cards:
I recently heard a song from the musical Hamilton and the lyrics struck me – “working through the unimaginable.” That’s exactly what our journey became in this past year. I could not imagine this life, this path that we are on. And there are moments when it is equally better than I could have imagined and worse than I could have imagined.
There is another line from the same Hamilton song that resonated with me: “We push away what we can never understand. We push away the unimaginable.”
Let us try not to push away in 2017. Let us try to understand each other. Let us channel the unimaginable into something good.
Best wishes for you in the new year, in the unknown that lies ahead.
