Meet My Mother-in-Law

When I first started this blog with introductions, I wrote that I would introduce you to more of my friends and family along the way. Well, it’s time for me to introduce Lucy, my mother-in-law. Since Lucy is Irish and tomorrow is St. Patty’s Day, I figure now’s the perfect time to write about her.

Lucy is terrific, so much fun to spend time with. Indeed, I had more than a little bit of the luck o’ the Irish in ending up with Lucy as my mother-in-law. I count my blessings that I don’t have to deal with a monster-in-law and that instead I made out really well when I married Richard – I not only gained a great hubby but a great family too. Richard has always been best friends with his mom and I’m happy to say that now I am too. Here’s my top five list of why Lucy is awesome!

1) Lucy loves Walter and Lady like grandchildren and lets them sleep on her couch.

2) Lucy is up for anything…she’s gone parasailing with Richard and endured a striptease show by her two sons at her 50th birthday party. She even dressed up as a clown to surprise Richard for his 30th birthday.

3) She loves boxed wine. Enough said.

4) She loves Lord of the Rings and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, great entertainment choices in my book. When I found out that Lucy was an LOTR fan, I knew that I was meant to be a part of the Kopp family.

5) Lucy is incredibly easy to talk to. She’s made me feel welcome and completely comfortable right from the first moment that we met. I love our late night conversations when we’re together for visits. There is never a shortage of laughter (or boxed wine…see #3).

This list could go on and on with more reasons. In fact, I can only think of one complaint when it comes to Lucy – she doesn’t like raisins, which is a bummer since I really enjoy making rugelach cookies with raisin filling. Oh well, no one is perfect.

Baby Kopp is going to be one very lucky grandchild with wonderful grandparents. When we shared our pregnancy news with Lucy on Christmas Eve, she was shocked and elated (we surprised her with a t-shirt that said “Great Moms Get Promoted to Grandma”). It was a memorable moment that was celebrated with more boxed wine, although I was unfortunately unable to partake…holidays without wine are like birthday parties without cake. I sure am looking forward to celebrating properly with Lucy after Baby Kopp arrives with a brand new box of Franzia Sunset Blush.

Since I have Lucy on my mind this St. Patrick’s Day, here are a few Grandma-inspired baby items that I thought I’d share with you.

Our little one is obviously going to be Lucy's favorite!
Baby Kopp will be an LOTR fan too, just like Mom and Grandma Kopp. The perfect bib for our little hobbit.
Everybody knows that grandmas don't have to say no...that's mom and dad's job.
Lucy loves ladybugs and this pull toy is adorable!
This bib says it all...perfect for Lan and Lucy!
Since Baby Kopp will be a little bit Irish, he's allowed to have shamrock socks!
Baby Kopp will keep Lucy company - he'll bring a bottle and she'll bring a box, BYOB style.
