Baby Kopp’s Nursery – Finally Finished!

Yes, that’s right – it’s finally finished! Our nesting is complete and the nursery is all ready for Baby Kopp to move in.

I know you’ve all been waiting to see the results, so here’s a collection of photos of our nursery. We hope you like it as much as we do! It turned out better than we ever imagined. Special thanks to Darin and Joe for risking their lives and helping us get the chair into the room and to J. Diddy (my dad) for getting us the dresser from Craigslist.

Here’s the cubby shelf that Richard built all by himself!! He even crafted the wood hooks out of a dowel and knobs and painted the back bright aqua. I love it…I admit that I thought Richard was a bit a crazy when he said he wanted to make the wall shelf himself. I thought it would be easier to just buy one from the local wood furniture store. But Richard’s shelf is much better than anything we could have bought. Now I’m just worried that I have competition as the craftiest person in our household.

I put some framed pictures on top of the cubby shelf, including the Superman print that I designed. The other print is from Etsy and it’s a quote from “Your Song” by Elton John. I think the words are perfect – How wonderful life is while you’re in the world. 🙂 For now, I’ve put Baby Kopp’s bathing supplies on the shelf. And the old dog pull toy is mine and my sisters’ from our childhood.

We love our ottoman pouf from Etsy that we had custom made in the orange fabric. Richard painted the toy chest and the aqua end table.

I think my DIY bunting is a nice decorative touch above the dresser, even though Richard still says it reminds him of the circus. We painted the frame of a cheap mirror bright orange and then I put a lamp with a shade that I decorated with green, yellow and aqua ribbon on the dresser. And that’s another piggy bank under the lamp – can you tell that I love pigs?

The zigzag rug from Urban Outfitters goes perfectly in the room, definitely worth the three months it took for us to get it on backorder. Walter also loves the rug, unfortunately. He enjoyes laying on it and leaving behind giant clusters of his fur.

Here’s our letter and number wall art above the crib. I’m still amazed that Richard actually cut them out of wood.

Our crib bedding is not an actual set; they’re random pieces that I found on clearance at the Land of Nod. The polka dot sheets and the changing pad cover were my inspiration for the nursery colors – aqua/teal, orange, yellow, and green. And it took me forever to find a mobile that I actually liked, especially since almost all mobiles are not gender neutral. I was about to give up and just forgo the mobile, but then I found this one with the cute animals in the bright colors.

The corner shelf area is filled with random items – artwork of Lady and Walter, lots of stuffed animals, an old wind-up dog toy, a jar of mine and my sisters’ old wooden alphabet blocks, a vintage piggy bank, and Mr. Bear (yes, Stephanie Judith Tanner’s Mr. Bear from Full House).

The chandelier was a pain to hang, but it’s another one of my favorite things in the nursery. In this corner, I also hung a small print of New Jersey that I designed that says “Grown in the Garden State.”

Doesn’t it look bright and cozy?

  1. Hi Louisa-

I’m a classmate of Richard’s from Restaurant School, whom I reconnected with on LinkedIn. He told me about your blog and I have been following it. Love the Nursery; it is so beautiful and cozy. You should really do this for a living. I am passing on my well wishes and blessings for an easy labor experience; my grandmother used to say it is the worst pain that is the easiest to forget. Then again, my grandmother was about as nutty as a rat turd in a peanut factory!!!!

Love the nod to Full House, BTW.

  2. YAY! This room was so much fun to put together … now we just need Baby Kopp to arrive so we can enjoy it with him/her! 🙂

  3. This looks amazing, guys! I know who I will be calling when it’s time for me and Chester to figure out this nursery business. Looking forward to hearing the news of Baby Kopp’s arrival!

  4. this is such a great nursery!! i saw it on project nursery. i saw that you got the glider at walmart — do you remember what it is called? congratulations on your upcoming baby!

  5. I LOVE IT!!!!!!! You guys did an awesome job….so excited for you both, and I can’t wait to hear the news of the arrival of Baby Kopp =)

  6. Louisa and Richard: Simply perfect!! We can’t wait to hold our great niece or nephew. Let us know how things are “progressing”. Love Angie and Doug.

  7. The baby’s room is perfect. I can’t wait until Baby Kopp can be there to enjoy it. Love, Grama!

  8. Linked to your blog from Project Nursery. Great job on the room, and I agree finding a crib mobile was one of the hardest things! We randomly found an all cream one while consignment shopping, but I had nearly given up too.

  9. Hey Louisa, Your nursery looks amazing!!! (not that I’m surprised). When exactly are you due? It must be any day now. I’m really excited for you both, you’ll make wonderful parents. Love and miss you! -Erika

  10. Thank you for helping me with inspiration! You have the exact nursery style I am going for: gender neutral, no characters, no animals (especially no owls!), no pastels, but bright fun colors. I’ve been telling how difficult it is to find stuff so I’m grateful that you gave out the origins of your items. Good luck and thanks again for the help!

  11. Is the glider comfortable/high quality? I’m comparing this to a very similar one at PB kids that is twice the price.

    • The glider is comfy and we have no complaints about the quality. It is more of a rocker than a glider. It’s a great value and I’m happy that we decided to get this chair instead of spending more on a PB or Land of Nod chair.

  12. CONGRATS!
    couple of questions please:
chair- how is it holding up to stains?
dresser- have you ever painted furniture before? how did you do it?
book shelves- please tell where you found them

lovely room for a lovely baby

    • Thank you! The chair fabric seems pretty good with stains. So far I’ve only gotten spit-up, breastmilk, and a little dirt on it. I just cleaned it with a damp paper towel and it still looks brand new. Yes, I’ve painted furniture before. It really depends on the finish, but pretty much all you have to do is sand it and clean it before you paint it. The book shelves are from Ikea.

  13. Hi!

I came across your nursery when googling nursery images, (it was on the first page, it’s beautiful, well done!) and I have fallen in love with that cubby shelf your husband built. I was wondering if he would be interested in sharing his plans for it? I share a room with my two month old baby boy (I live at home with my parents as my husband is military and frequently deployed) and storage space/shelf space is scarce. I have a very handy father who would help me build this. If your husband isn’t interested in sharing his plans, no worries, please pass on my compliments anyway.

Best wishes in the new year to you and your family.

    • Sure! I love the shelf too. My husband can send the plans to you. I’ll have him email you.

Hope you’re enjoying your baby boy as much as we’re enjoying ours. Happy New Year!

      • I definitely am. Arent little boys wonderful?

Many thanks, I look forward to receiving his email. 🙂

  14. Hello, I just came across a picture on Pinterest from your nursery. I love it! It really helped me figure out placement in the nursery. Also, I noticed that you are from Collingswood, NJ and that you said you bought your side table at a local store. Can you tell me the name of the place and where it is located? Thanks!

    • Thank you! Our small side table was from a demolition sale down at the Jersey shore. The dresser was from a local seller on Craigslist. Good luck with your nursery!

  15. Hi!
WHERE in the world did you get a Mr. Bear?! I would love that for my kids! I appreciate any help!

Nursery looks great…I know I’m late to the party 😉
