Meet Baby Owen

Baby Kopp finally arrived!! And Richard was proven right – he’s a boy! Which was a relief, because when I saw his face for the first time before knowing his gender, I immediately thought “God, please let it be a boy because if not we have a very ugly girl.”

After much deliberation that continued even during the delivery and after meeting our son, we decided to name him Owen Martin. We’ve always loved the name Owen and his middle name, Martin, is a tribute to my mother’s family since it’s her maiden name.

Owen was a bigger baby than expected, just over 8lbs. And he continues to put on weight at an incredible rate. I think he may have a binge eating problem and an obsession with my nipples.

Since both me and Owen were healthy and made a quick recovery, we went home from the hospital in less than two days. Richard packed up the car and parked the in front of the lobby to pick us up. Owen was snug in his carseat, in a very deep slumber because less than two hours before he’d been circumcised. Luckily he was asleep so he didn’t witness our first debacle in the world of parenting.

Ready to head home, we tried to open the car door to put Owen inside and discovered that the door was locked. All four car doors were locked. And the keys were in the ignition. Unaware of the security feature in our car, Richard had left the keys in the ignition and the car had automatically locked when he shut the door. We were locked out.

Thank goodness Owen wasn’t awake. I knew he would have thought “Great. I have to go home with these two dumba***s?

As we waited for Triple A to arrive, Richard was very agitated about the situation. I told him to relax, that this would be great material for my blog.

Eventually we made it home and things have been going pretty smoothly since then. Here are some photos from Owen’s first week of life.

Owen swaddled for the first time at the hospital.

Sleeping peacefully.

Ready to go home!

Owen meeting his brother and sister, Lady and Walter, for the first time. Lady didn’t show much interest.

Owen eating his arm.

It wasn’t long before Richard had Owen dressed in Superman apparel.

After his first bath, which he didn’t like. He expressed his displeasure by shooting pee at us.

Richard loves sleeping with Owen.

Owen’s first walk in Collingswood.

Owen has gray eyes right now. Since both me and Richard have brown eyes, I’m sure the color will change soon.

Kind of smiling as he sleeps.
