Carmendy’s One Month Old!

Wow…it’s been one month since Carmendy came into this world! With time going by so fast, it’ll be a small miracle if I manage to write a monthly update for Carmendy for the next two years. But I must! What kind of mother would I be if I didn’t do for Carmendy what I did for Owen?

So I will find the time no matter what. And in case you’re missing Owen, don’t worry! I’ll be posting Owen updates quarterly, which means he’ll be back on the blog next month. You’re welcome.

Back to Carmendy. Honestly, I have very little to say about her this month. You know how people say that infants only eat, poop, and sleep? Well, they’re right.

Carmendy is pretty quiet. Even her screaming cry is quiet. Sometimes her quietness actually startles me; I think she’s asleep and then when I glance at her I find she’s wide awake, completely still, and creepily staring at me with no expression. Like some freaky baby from a horror movie. Since I’m a psycho paranoid mom, I have to check and make sure she’s still breathing when I catch her looking at me like this.

Besides her blank stare expression, Carmendy’s expression is perpetually serious. In fact, most of the time I think she looks downright worried. This is probably because her older brother is constantly yanking at her and trying to pick her up by her head. Valid reasons to look concerned.

Carmendy looks a lot like Owen did at this age. Sometimes I accidentally call her Owen. This could mean a) Carmendy looks like a boy or b) my mind is totally f**ked from having two kids. I’m going with the latter since I sometimes call our dog Owen too.

I admit there are moments when I feel like Carmendy is getting the second child shaft when it comes to my attention and care. In the past month, I haven’t held her nearly as much as I held Owen during his first few weeks of life. I haven’t recorded any milestones or tracked her feedings and dirty diapers with an app. I don’t make people wash their hands before holding her. I don’t give her a bath every day. And I don’t really feel guilty about any of this. Rather, I think “Why the hell did I do all that with Owen??”

Despite not being held very much, Carmendy is thriving. She’s in the 93rd percentile for her weight and has gained 4 pounds in one month. Good thing I like chunky babies.

Let’s get on to the fun part – Carmendy’s very first monthly photos! We decided to do the same set-up as we did for Owen, except Carmendy is wearing a pink onesie and she has a white blanket in her photos (our effort to make them a little more feminine). So far, she’s an easier model than Owen since she just sits there and stares. Take a look at our little girl:

Of course we had to do September-themed photos too! Here’s the apple of my eye…one month old and ready for the fall season:

And, yeah, I had to include the bloopers too. You know you love them.

Maggie was there to witness her birth and she’s back for her monthly photos too…
