Here’s a simple way to make adorable toppers to decorate cupcakes or a cake for an ice cream-themed party. Yep, I know summer is over…but ice cream is part of celebrations year-round in my universe. (And we’re in the middle of a heatwave here, so the need for ice cream is very real.) These ice cream party cupcake toppers made from lollipops are super easy to make, but look like Martha Stewart-worthy ice cream cones.
I thought of this idea for ice cream party cupcake toppers for my cute little niece Clementine. She had a fun ice cream-themed bash for her second birthday a couple weeks ago and since I love ice cream, I couldn’t resist making something to fit the theme for her celebration. Also, I had a ton of Dum Dums lollipops leftover from Carmendy’s birthday party, so this was the perfect way to make use of them.
Along with the Dum Dums lollipops, here’s everything you’ll need:
- Brown paper (construction paper, scrapbook paper)
- Dum Dums lollipops
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Cupcakes or cake to decorate (from a bakery, box cake mix or a homemade recipe)
Step 1
First, cut out mini cone shapes from the brown paper using a template. It’s easy to find a template for DIY mini cones online – just Google “mini party hat template”!
Step 2
Next, roll the cut-out shapes to form the mini cones.
Step 3
Where the paper overlaps, add a dab of hot glue and press the paper edges firmly together. Set aside to dry and cool. Such cute mini ice cream cones!
Step 4
Unwrap a bunch of Dum Dums lollipops and pick out colors that you’d like for the “ice cream scoops.”
Step 5
To finish making the toppers, push the paper cones onto the lollipop stick all the way up so it looks like an ice cream cone. Then stick the toppers in your cupcakes or cake and go get your ice cream party started!
How darling are these little lollipop ice cream cone toppers? The only bad thing about them is that they’re not made from real ice cream.
