I’m so excited to finally share Carmendy’s first birthday party with y’all! The sprinkles, sparkles and confetti birthday celebration was PERFECT for my baby girl, who loves all things tiny and shiny.
Her bash was a small Friday evening get together with family but I still went a little crazy with the decorations, of course. About 6 months ago I knew that her party would have to have confetti, jimmies and glitter (yes, that’s how far in advance I start thinking about parties). So I had plenty of time to come up with decor ideas inside my wacky mind.
For the invitation, I drew a caricature-style ink picture of Carmendy by hand. I came up with the rhyming text: “Sprinkles, sparkles and confetti, everybody get ready. Together is the best way, to celebrate Carmendy’s birthday!” Using a Silhouette Cameo, I cut out the word “one” from pink glitter paper and glued it to each invitation. I designed a confetti background and for a finishing touch, I added some pink rhinestone stickers and glued on some sprinkles (or jimmies, as I prefer to call them).
The “centerpiece” for the party (other than my girl Carmendy) was the giant letters spelling “ONE” displayed on our mantle with a confetti background of paper dots. I painted the giant paper mache letters white and then glued glitter and sparkle confetti to the “O”, rainbow sprinkles to the “N”, and paper confetti to the “E.” I used a bunch of different colors of card stock and glitter paper to make the polka dot backdrop.
Under the mantle display, I hung a circle dot garland in a rainbow of colors and a pom-pom garland. It was super easy to make the pom-pom garland — I simply strung the pom poms together with a needle and thread.
I found cute party hats at Target that I adorned with glitter pom poms on the top. I also decorated solid pink party hats with sprinkles and confetti.
I made a banner with the word “one” repeated three times, with one covered in sprinkles, one covered in confetti and one made with glitter paper. Giant sparkly white pom poms finished the banner on yellow ribbon.
I put the ink drawing of Carmendy from her invitation in a large yellow-painted frame decorated with confetti.
I made cupcake toppers out of number one’s cut from card stock and decorated with glitter, confetti, and sprinkles.
I found an iridescent pink cake platter at HomeGoods and it looked perfect in the center of a confetti-filled table.
I even glued some pastel confetti sprinkles to the bottom of the beverage cups. The glitter pink plates and striped napkins were another Target find.
I made Richard punch out every single one of the paper confetti circles. He is officially the most patient husband ever.
I framed number ones that I “drew” in confetti, sprinkles and glitter for some party wall art.
I also made a wall of balloons for a photo backdrop. It was much easier to put together than I thought it would be and I loved it for photos! I used balloons in a variety of colors, some pearl and some with polka dots. I found awesome giant sticker rhinestones at Michaels Arts and Crafts store on a clearance rack that I stuck randomly on a few of the solid color balloons for some extra sparkle.
How cute is my one-year-old pumpkin?
And here’s the smash cake with our antique high chair. Covering the sides of the cake in nonpareils was NOT easy. But worth the effort. I kept the cake simple with a single pink glitter candle.
I decorated the high chair with a couple strands of the pom pom garland.
Above the high chair in the corner of the room and along the staircase banister, I hung more circle confetti garland and DIY tissue paper fringe garland. You can never have too much garland at a birthday party.
Carmendy was reluctant to dig in to her whole cake, unsure of what to make of it. But when we presented her with a slice, she scarfed it down.
The little lady with all her gifts.
For the party favors, I filled mason jars with funfetti cake batter dip. I decorated the jars with a glitter “thanks”, colorful ribbon, and confetti sprinkles.
We, of course, took some photos of the birthday girl with her big bro.
And despite Owen’s resistance to photos, we managed to get a couple decent family photos.
Thanks to everyone who celebrated with us! If you have any questions about the party decor, please feel free to contact me.
You did a wonderful job on the decorations very girly and sparkly. I love it all!
Thank you so much!
I’m obsessed with both children’s birthdays! They are both so beautiful! You are very talented! Love the theme you chose for your daughters. The colors, the confetti, sprinkles, and sparkles, oh my! Beautiful idea with the balloons for the photo op! So inspiring! Thank you for the great ideas!
Your sons party theme was just as amazing! I’m doing something very similar for my sons. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you so much!! Good luck with your son’s party!
This party is PERFECT and your baby is adorable! My wheels are turning now for my babe’s first birthday in a couple months!
How did you do the glue for the framed #1s? I was going to cut out a 1 in poster board or something so be my guide, but did not know how to make the glue/sprinkles flow well around it. Did you use clear glue and then kind of paint it where you wanted? Thanks! Everything is so cute!
Thanks so much! I used Elmer’s glue and spread it out lightly on the paper (I made the outline of the number one with the glue too). And then I very carefully sprinkled the confetti/sprinkles/glitter around them. Since Elmer’s glue doesn’t dry right away, it was pretty easy to move and adjust any sprinkles or confetti to create the scattered look. The glitter was the hardest to work with.
how did you do the sprinkles on the sides of the cake?
You can scoop sprinkles in your hand and gently press them into the side of the cake – this is the simplest way, but very messy! Sprinkles will get everywhere. If you want a neater method, you can take wax paper and coat it with a little bit of non-stick cooking spray. Cover it with the sprinkles and press them on the wax paper so they stick. Then lift up the wax paper and press it against the side of the cake. The sprinkles will transfer from the wax paper to the cake.
Love your balloon backdrop. How did you hang the balloons onto the wall? Thanks!
where did you get these balloons.. i loved every detail in the party..
Thank you so much! I bought the balloons from different stores: Walmart, Target, Party City.
How did you get all the balloons to stick to the wall?
I just used tape loops. 🙂

Hi! Just wanted to comment and let you know you are STILL inspiring Moms all around! I have been having trouble finding a cute theme that wasn’t PINK for my daughter’s first and this is IT! I’m so excited! Thank you for the inspiration!
Thank you so much!!! I’m so glad it inspired you.
Hi! I love this! Recently decided I wanted a colorful theme for my sons first birthday and your post is exactly what I had in mind’ Could you tell me how you made the confetti or if you bought it, same with the circle banner? Thank you!
Thanks so much! Some of the confetti I purchased on Amazon and some of it I made myself with a hole punch and different color paper. I made the circle banner the same way – punched out circles – and then I attached them to string with hot glue (tape or regular glue would work too). Just make sure to put the string/ribbon towards the top of the back of the circles, so that they lay nicely and don’t flip down when you hang them. 🙂
What glue did you use for cups?!?!?! I am worried about the cup sweating and making the glue “wet” again and having a sticky mess but, I am OBSESSED with thia look and cannot find anything like it anywhere.
Is it terrible that I can’t remember? Lol I’m pretty sure it was just elmer’s glue. Her birthday is in August, so it’s always super hot and I don’t remember having any issues with the cups. 🙂
Love this so much! Where did you find the straws?
They were from a summer collection at Michaels!
