Have you noticed that paper flowers are all the rage right now for decorations? Well I came up with the easiest paper flower craft ever, made with PAPER PLATES! This paper plate flower craft looks modern and pretty; you’d never guess they were made from paper tableware. They are simple enough to be a craft for children and elegant enough to be a decoration for a party or shower.
Don’t be put off by the length of this post. I was overly detailed describing the steps in making these flowers (more info is better than too little, right?). So it’ll take more time to read these directions than it will to make a flower.
You’ll need the following supplies to make one paper plate flower:
- 1 large solid-color party paper plate (about 9 inches)
- 2 small solid-color party paper plates (about 7 inches)
- Stapler
- Scissors
- Yellow pipe cleaner
- Craft glue or hot glue gun
- 1 green felt sheet
To begin, cut the pipe cleaner into 5 pieces (about 2 inches long).
Then cut a leaf-shape from the green felt.
Next, take the paper plates and cut slits in each one (about halfway through, almost to the center). FYI, I bought these plates for a dollar at the Dollar Tree. You can make about 12 of these flowers for less than $4.00. So this craft is definitely budget-friendly.
Then, for each plate, take the edges of the cut and pull them over each other, overlapping the plate to make a very wide, short cone shape.
Staple the overlapping section of the plate to hold in place.
Using fast grab tacky glue or hot glue gun, glue the paper plate cones together with the largest one on the bottom and the tips of the cones in the center. Press the plates together (carefully, if you’re using hot glue!) and let the glue dry for a few minutes.
Then glue the pipe cleaner pieces to the inside center of the “flower.” Such lovely stamens. A bee may want to pollinate these. Wait, that doesn’t sound right. I meant that a bee may think this a real
Glue the felt leaf to the back of the paper plate flower.
And that’s it! Look how beautiful – it’s perfect for a garden party, tropical party or fiesta! (Also not a bad craft for children to make for their moms for Mother’s Day.)
Make them in any color that you’d like!
I used this paper plate flower craft to make a flower garland for our Cinco de Mayo party by stringing a few together. They looked ah-mazing.
