Rainbow Treat Bags {A Magically Colorful Favor}

I’m loving all things rainbow-themed lately (it’s the result of Lisa Frank nostalgia brought on by the current magical unicorn trends  and, more obviously, having a rainbow baby).  So, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day this month, I’m posting a series of rainbow DIYs. And I’m starting the series with super easy rainbow treat bags! They’re perfect for St. Patrick’s Day treats or favor bags for a rainbow-themed party.

I’m weirdly excited about them, and hope you think they’re as awesome as I do! This is basically like finding a pot o’ gold. (Alright, maybe not that good. But damn close!)

Before I get to the how-to for the rainbow treat bags, I have a couple blog-related updates. First, I realize it’s been a really, really long time since I’ve written anything funny (like 9 months, yikes!). I promise that humor posts will be back soon, and I have some hilarious ideas that will be worth the wait. In the meantime, make sure to follow my Facebook page for funny stuff; I try to publish an amusing meme once or twice a week.

Second, I’m almost always behind with posting things on my blog – BUT I do stay on top of things on my Instagram feed. So if you want to know what’s happening in real time (okay, more like what’s been happening in the past day or two) and see four-month-old pictures of Winnie when she is actually four months old, then follow me on Instagram (@louisakopp).

Okay, now back to rainbow crafting!

Here’s everything you’ll need to make rainbow treat bags:

  • Scissors
  • Paper in rainbow colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple)
  • Tape
  • Glue
  • Treat bags
  • Cotton balls or white craft pom-poms

Step 1

First, cut the colored paper into 1/2 inch strips.

Step 2

Line up the strips in rainbow-color order side-by-side (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple). Tape across the paper strips on both ends, so that the strips stay together.

Step 3

Tape (or staple) the rainbow strips to one side of the open top of the treat bag (far left or far right). Then tape (or staple) the other end of the rainbow strips to the opposite side of the open top of the treat bag. The rainbow paper strips will make a handle for the treat bag, going from one side to the other.

Note: I found my treat bags for this DIY from Shop Sweet LuLu, but any favor bag could work! I think these rainbow treat bags would look adorable made with plain brown paper lunch bags too.

Step 4

Once the rainbow paper is attached to the bag, glue three cotton balls to both “ends” of the rainbow.

Step 5

After the glue has dried, fill the bags with treats for St. Patrick’s Day or your rainbow party celebration.
