Finally sharing Carmendy’s Minnie Mouse tea party birthday! Way back in August we celebrated our girl’s 5th birthday with the prettiest tea party with a Minnie Mouse theme and a little bit of sparkle.
Since she turned four, Carmendy has been asking for a Minnie Mouse tea party and I had to make her dreams come true. I know that Carmendy was hoping for a girly tea party with flowers and lots of pink and sparkle. So I did my best to combine a classic vintage tea party with a Minnie Mouse flair! I really had to turn my creativity on to pull this theme off and keep it from looking like the typical Minnie Mouse birthday party. My inspiration came from a floral vintage Minnie Mouse pattern that I randomly found online. This pattern brought all my ideas together – I added some pops of iridescent and lots of bows and it ended up being one of my favorite party themes ever!
Originally, Carmendy’s birthday party was supposed to be outside. But the weather didn’t cooperate, so we had to switch plans and host the party in my parents’ house. It made party day more stressful than usual, but it all worked out and I’m thankful my parents’ let us use their house!
I hope you love Carmendy’s 5th birthday party as much as she did! Take a look at all the details and let me know what you think.
Vintage Minnie Mouse Tea Party
While searching on Etsy, I noticed wooden laser cut outs in Mickey Mouse head shapes. At first I wasn’t sure how they would work with the party look. Would they be too rustic? How could I make them fit in with the sparkly and girly theme that Carmendy wanted? But I purchased them anyway, and they ended up being my favorite part of the party.
At each place setting, I put a wooden mouse head cutout on the napkin that I decorated with a bow. For the cake topper, I also used a larger wooden cutout with a big bow. I really think it brought the Minnie Mouse theme to the tablescape for the tea party, while keeping the Minnie theme fresh and unique.
I kept the layer cake simple with light pink frosting and a white dotted border along the bottom. With the wooden mouse head topper and big polka dot bow on the red cake stand, that’s all it needed to look perfect for a Minnie Mouse theme.
A little sparkle for the birthday girl!
Carmendy likes glitter and sparkle, so I tried my best to add the shiny glam to her party. I glued iridescent white glitter tinsel pom poms on wooden stir sticks for the drink cups, and glued the cutest mouse head-shaped rhinestone charms on iridescent paper drinking straws. I also scattered the rhinestone charms on the table.
A tea party obviously needs teacups, and I was so happy to use my grandmother’s from her china set. I found a simple and inexpensive simple white teapot to match the teacups. A tiered dessert tray is also a must-have for a tea party. I filled mine with tea sandwiches (cream cheese and raspberry jam sandwiches) and pink meringues that I shaped like mouse heads.
When I think of tea parties, I think of flowers. Carmendy’s party needed flowers! I put bright pink mini roses in little vases on the table. I printed paper placemats with the vintage Minnie Mouse floral pattern that inspired her party theme and design.
My friend and cookie decorating expert Pam made the most darling cookies to match this same floral pattern. They fit so perfectly, and they were almost too beautiful to eat.
The whole table came together so beautifully for our girl’s 5th birthday! I love the paper table runner that added a big pop of pink. I came up with the crazy idea to give it a scallop edge, which ended up being quite a project. It was definitely the most challenging decoration to DIY for the party. After I traced the pattern along the edges, I made Richard painstakingly cut it out. But once I saw it on the table, I concluded it was worth it. Richard may disagree.
High five for high tea!
I love to include photos and clever puns to go with birthday party themes. So before Carmendy’s party, I took a bunch of pictures of her wearing Mickey Mouse ears. Then I enlarged the photos and printed them poster size in black and white. I displayed them as part of her party decorations and wrote a “High Five for High Tea: Car-MINNIE’s Tea Party” on a chalkboard. (Get it? High five because she turned five! And I couldn’t resist replacing “mendy” in her name with “minnie.”)
For the party favors, Carmendy’s little cousins each got a mouse ear headband and a little bag of candy and Minnie Mouse stickers. I used pink polka dot favor bags and glued a bow on each one.
I hope you loved all the details of Carmendy’s Minnie Mouse tea party! Her 5th birthday might have the best tablescape out of all the parties I’ve planned. And I’m not even a Minnie or Mickey fan. (Yeah, I admit it – I think the cartoon mice are strange.)
Now check out the five-year-old modeling for the camera! I can’t believe she’s so grown-up. And I also can’t believe that her next birthday is now almost 6 months away since I took so long to share this party! What do you think her next party theme should be?
Do you have any links to the Minnie floral printed placemats and where you wear able to get them printed? Such a cute party!
Thanks so much! I made the placemats myself, email me at icecreamoffpaperplates at @gmail.com and I’ll share the file with you.
May I also have the file for the placemats please? They’re adorable! I emailed you as well 🙂
