A Spooky Black & White Halloween Party

Getting ready to throw a spooky celebration for Halloween? I’ve got a few easy and boo-tiful ideas for a black & white Halloween party.

Halloween is my fav. Candy corn, costumes, candy, candy corn…what’s not to love? It’s pretty much every thing I love about life in one holiday. I thoroughly enjoy planning really creative costumes (which I honestly start doing in like June), but I also really dig classic Halloween – witches, spiders, vampires. Give me all the ghoulish stuff!

So when it comes to Halloween party decorations, I like the traditional look. Jack o’lanterns. Ghosts. Lots of black. When I planned these party ideas, I decided to give classic Halloween decorations a modern twist with an all black-and-white color scheme. NO orange.

DIY Tissue Paper Spiderwebs

Holy cow! (see how I referred to a black and white animal in my black and white party post?) Paper spiderwebs are so, so easy and look impressive.  One night while feeding Winnie at 2 a.m., I basically had an epiphany – could I make spiderwebs out of paper the same way we make snowflakes out of paper?? A quick Google search confirmed it. But I wanted my paper spiderwebs to be black, and finding black paper that wasn’t too heavy like cardstock or construction paper was impossible. Luckily, I had another epiphany – tissue paper!! The lightweight tissue paper was perfect, and gave the paper spiderwebs that delicate, floating feeling of real spiderwebs.

If you’ve made paper snowflakes before, then you can make these DIY paper spiderwebs. The only supplies needed are scissors, tape, and black tissue paper (I bought mine at Walmart for a dollar). Cut the tissue paper into large squares, fold the squares in half several times, cut out the spiderweb pattern, and then carefully unfold the tissue paper.

Balloon Bat Cake Toppers

Mini balloons (5 inch) make great cake toppers. So for Halloween I thought why not make mini balloons into bat cake toppers?

I blew up a couple black mini balloons and tied them to wooden skewers. Then I cut out some “bat wings” from black cardstock and taped them to the balloons.

Ombre Mini Balloon Garland

Using the monochrome scheme for the black & white Halloween party, I wanted to make something with an ombré effect. So I tied mini balloons in shades of white, gray, silver and black to a piece of string and hung it like a banner.
